Our ban policy

Here at The Plays, we are firm believers in ensuring fair play and combatting cheaters. For the purpose of transparency, we have decided to publish our ban policy. Below you will find full definitions on ban types, ban lengths, how to report a suspicious player and our appeals process.

Ban Types

If you have been banned from any of our tournaments, you will be given a reason for your ban and the type of ban you have received. If you're unsure on what the ban means, this list will help you.

  • Anti-cheat ban
  • If you have been banned by an anti-cheat (e.g. VAC, EAC, Warden, etc.), this means software has detected you have installed software (or hardware) which edit the game's files and allows you to use cheats such as wallhacking and aimbotting.

  • Developer ban
  • Some game developers issue bans to players for poor or abusive behaviour, or generally breaking their game's terms of service. In most instances, you will need to contact the developer for information on your ban if they have not given you any reason. Sometimes this is issued by crowd-sourcing evidence (i.e. CS:GO Overwatch) or the game's publisher.

  • Event ban
  • We issue event bans to players or teams who have repeatedly broken our event rules or if they do not meet our event's eligibility requirements. This ban can be stacked, meaning you may be banned for more than 1 event. This will be explained to you when the ban is issued.

  • Match ban
  • A match ban is a temporary ban generally issued to players who have been abusive to any of our staff despite already being warned or if a player does not meet the match's eligibility requirements. This ban can be stacked, meaning you may be banned for more than 1 event. This will be explained to you when the ban is issued.

  • Ban evasion ban
  • If you have already been issued a ban and you try to evade that ban by playing on an alternate account, or pretend to be somebody else, you will be issued a further ban for ban evasion.

  • Indefinite ban
  • You will be issued an indefinite ban if you repeatedly breach any of the above ban terms.

Ban Lengths

We have pre-determined ban lengths for anti-cheat and developer bans, but for our own bans, they are on a case-by-case basis as per the above ban types.

  • Anti-cheat ban: 24 months from ban date
  • Developer ban: 12 months from ban date
  • Event ban: 1 event (can be stacked)
  • Match ban: 1 match (can be stacked)
  • Ban evasion ban: 12 months from date of evasion discovery
  • Indefinite ban: Length will be determined on a case-by-case

Appeals

If you feel you have been banned unjustly, you can send in an appeal. Appeals generally take 72 hours to be responded to, but can sometimes take longer. In order to keep response time to a minimum, we kindly request you send all supporting evidence in your first point of contact with us.

If you think you've found a player who is cheating, you can contact us with details and supporting evidence. All reports are confidential.
